Guidelines for Thesis/Dissertation Writing
- Theses/dissertations must be written using MS Word and printed on white vellum paper (19cm x 26cm).
- The front cover of theses/dissertations must be bound: using gray Leathack paper for theses (notch binding) and black hardcover cross binding for dissertations.
- Theses/dissertations must be bound in the following order: 1) Cover (Template 1); 2) Endpaper (the inside of the book cover); 3) Title page (Template 2); 4) Thesis/Dissertation Approval (Template 3); 5) Table of Contents; 6) Body; 7) References; 8) Appendix (if applicable); and 9) Abstract (Template 4).
- Titles and authors must be printed on the front cover and spine: black lettering for theses and gold lettering for dissertations.
- The degree name must be included in the appropriate section as underlined below.
- Long thesis/dissertation titles may be written on multiple lines in the loose formation of an inverted triangle.
- In principle, theses/dissertations must be written in Korean, but may be written in a foreign language, if approved by the student’s academic adviser.
- Theses/Dissertations Approval (Template 3) must contain the actual date of approval (final examination).
- If the body of the thesis/dissertation is written in Korean, then the abstract must be written in a foreign language and vice versa.
- If the thesis/dissertation is written in English, only the first letter of each word in the title should be capitalized; the rest of the title should be written in lower case.
- The English name of the student must be written in the order of last name first (i.e. Hong Gildong or Hong Gil-dong).
- The English name of the student must be written the same as in the student’s passport.
