Qualification Test
- The master’s and Ph.D. thesis submission qualification test (hereinafter, “the qualification test”) consists of a foreign language test and a comprehensive exam.
Foreign Language Test
- English is placed as the first foreign language in the foreign language test for the students expected to graduate from a master’s program, Ph.D. program, integrated master’s-Ph.D. program, or combined program. Non-Korean students can choose Korean. Students attending the General Graduate School can replace the foreign language test with adequate scores in the tests recognized in Paragraph 4 or completion of related courses.
- Students who have completed a convergence major in addition to the major program of their originally affiliated departments need to attain the passing marks in the foreign language test or meet the exemption criteria required by both programs.
- Students who have completed a Ph.D. program, integrated master’s-Ph.D. program, or combined program can take a second foreign language test in German, French, Japanese, Chinese, or Literary Chinese.
- Any student who has obtained a score above the specified cut-off point in the English language test (Korean for foreigners) administered by an institution recognized by the president is deemed to have passed the test, where the cut-off point is set separately after review by the competent graduate school committee. However, the pass (exemption) criteria for the foreign language test (English or Korean) of General Graduate School students are tabularized below. The validity period of the test results obtained shall be two years from the deadline for applying for the foreign language test pursuant to Article 51(2).
