Technical Research Personnel System
- The Technical Research Personnel System supports the designated institutions selected by the Commissioner of the Military Manpower Administration to use a part of military service resources as research personnel to enhance national competitiveness within the scope that does not impede the recruitment flow of military personnel.
- Students eligible for active-duty enlistment (including social service positions [supplementary service]) are transferred to an organization designated by the Military Manpower Administration* and serve for three years (up to the age of 35, the upper limit of mandatory military service).
*Transfer: Converting the status from that of a person subject to military service to that of a Technical Research Personnel

Technical Research Personnel selection period
- April and September (twice a year)
Qualifications to apply for Technical Research Personnel status
- Students with a master’s degree* currently studyingin a Ph.D. program in the natural sciences
Only students enrolled in a Ph.D. program at the time of application deadline can apply; i.e., those who have not yet started the program or have already completed/graduated, or are on a leave of absence, cannot apply.
For the integrated master’s-Ph.D. program students, completion of the course length corresponding to the master's degree portion of the program is a prerequisite for application under Article 31(1)2 of the Higher Education Act. - Students who can complete the mandatory service period of three years by the age of 35 after transferring to the status of Technical Research Personnel

Post-selection Management of Technical Research personnel
- Students selected as Technical Research personnel shall work in a firm designated for military service, only for research purposes, with their activities (commuting, business trip, education, etc.) monitored by the system.
